Chapter 18

Brompton Square

With warm morning bathed in sunshine, Kate and Becky decided to take breakfast in the garden. Sylvie was back among the living, but he hadn’t dressed, his hair was askew, and pain was etched over his face. He was a sartorial wreck in his own boots and a nightshirt and robe borrowed from Trent.

And perhaps not entirely recovered. He took in his surroundings, blinking and confused. “So… Brompton Square then.”

It was extremely disconcerting. Kate sat beside him on the wicker sofa and held his hand. Of course it was unrealistic to think that after a good nights’ sleep he’d be himself again, but that’s exactly what she had done.

Sylvie was the one in a pitiful state, but it was Kate who felt as trapped and disoriented as any creature at the London Zoo—and once again a stranger in a strange land.
